For many children with special needs there are additional benefits.  

If you have a child with autism, clothing can be a real challenge.  Many children, especially those with Asperger's Syndrome, become agitated if the material is too scratchy for instance.  They like soft material and a comfortable, secure fit, which can actually help calm them.

I came across this particular design however because of an even more particular need.  For some children that have sensory issues, the need to help keep fingers away from their dirty diaper is an issue. 

The maker of this product, Julie, is an experienced overseas clothing designer who came to the rescue of a parent of a four-year old with autism, who had this exact problem...

"She needed a bodysuit in order to prevent him from gaining access into his nappy which led to faecal smearing. This was a not only a regular occurance, but extremely frustrating, upsetting and messy...."

And so, this onesie style outfit was created for her son and they " have proven to be so helpful to her son, that smearing is no longer an issue for him, his family and his school."

The sleeveless style makes it well suited for day-time use, either worn as is or under another shirt.

Onesie Bodysuit Size GUIDE

Onesie Bodysuit with Back Zipper and Optional Buckle / Lock

This bodysuit barrier garment features a leg length that comes to about two inches above the knee, to deter access to diapers.  It also offers an optional lock over the buckle to further keep determined fingers away from the zipper.  

In fact, there are two types of optional locks available - a standard lock, and a SafeGuard lock. The SafeGuard lock actually has a locking feature, providing a third layer of protection against clothing removal.
